Celebration

Dassow Daddy has an exciting new business venture that he is starting, so we went out to dinner to celebrate tonight at a new Italian restaurant in town.  Evelynd got to drink some of my apple juice, try some of the bread, and sit in a big high chair.  She was having fun.

Then we went downtown to exchange some of her clothes where we met an eight-week-old baby girl who had been born with teeth!  I had heard of such a thing, but never seen it before.  Her parents had had two other children who weren't toothy newborns, so this baby also surprised them.  Once we went home, Baby E went to bed at 8:00 p.m. on the dot.

By the end of the night, Ev had pulled her headband off and made it a bow tie.

P.S. Fun season, Red Sox.  We'll miss you Terry Francona -- you were a great manager, you Wildcat, you!

Dassow Drips

Evelynd and I are sick.  We've got a nasty cold, so I'm TIRED and grumpy.  So far, Dassow Daddy is still healthy.  Let's hope he stays that way.
First, since Evelynd is now over six months, she can eat a wider variety of foods and our stockpile in the freezer is getting more colorful:
Monday was Evelynd's first taste of pumpkin and leeks.  Not her favorite, but not the worst either (carrots still hold that title).  Yesterday, she had the apple, pear, apricot puree and couldn't eat it fast enough (I thought it was pretty delicious, too).

Other than that, we're trying to rest and get better.  Here are some pictures from yesterday and today.
This adorable is hat is for our Little Dutch Girl again -- thanks Jippings!  We love all the adorable hand-me-downs.

Even with snot dripping out her nose, she was full of smiles and hugs.
P.S. The Red Sox and Rays are both fighting for the AL Wild Card and I'm too sick to wait up.  Hopefully it will be good news for Red Sox Nation when I wake.

Food Glorious Food, Part 2

Evelynd and I were surprised today to see Annabelle, our friend who inspired all of Evelynd's gourmet eating.  We thought she had already left for Kuwait, but she was in Oregon!  Fun to see her, if even briefly.  So, it was a great day to start even more foods.  Evelynd got to try papaya for breakfast, had her first Cheerios, and got to drink water and Martinelli's apple juice out of a cup!  Dassow Daddy and Mommy finally put her high chair together so she'll be able to eat more finger foods and we can have Dassow Dinners as a threesome.  We also visited Katey and Kayla to show them Evie in her beautiful dress they picked out for her.  After Ev went to sleep Dassow Daddy helped me make some more baby food (coming soon: pumpkin, leeks, and broccoli).

First, a video of Evie when she first woke up this morning (bad night, by the way, she woke me up five times).
Here's Evelynd trying some Cheerios:
When we arrived at Katey's Evelynd was completely out, but still holding on to her zebra.
We'll finish the post with some cute pictures of Baby E in her dress and high chair.  She's asleep right now and I'm hoping will be back to her eight-hour + sleeps.

P.S. Red Sox beat the Yankees in extras in the second game of their double header so they are still leading the wild card race.

Wings of Wonder

The Jippings invited Evelynd and me to join them today on a field trip to the Wings of Wonder butterfly pavilion.  Dassow Daddy was meeting up with an old law school friend, so it was just us girls.
It was very fun and helped Evie forget about her sore legs.  We saw colorful butterflies, small butterflies, and one really big butterfly.  We also saw birds, frogs, snakes, and lizards.

A butterfly landed on Kuno's back.

This butterfly was HUGE!

After the butterflies, we went out into the garden to enjoy the picnic Melanie had made for all of us and Evelynd got to play with Sylvia a little (both girls were wearing butterfly shirts, too).

All in all, a great day.  Thanks so much for thinking of us, Jippings!

Six Month Checkup

This morning Evelynd had her six month check.  She was all smiles -- at first.  The nurses loved her as they don't often get to deal with smiling kids.
Here are the official stats:
Height: 26 1/2" (75th percentile)
Weight: 18 lbs. 4.5 oz. (85th percentile)
Head Circumference: (90th percentile)

What a big girl we have!  She passed all her development questions with flying colors (one was whether she laughs.  I think I'd be pretty sad if she hadn't been laughing for months now -- it's the best sound in the world).  Dr. Wilson again said, "She's such a great mix of the two of you.  She really is a beautiful baby."  After the doctor left and we were waiting for this month's round of injections, Evie fell asleep.  What an awful way to wake up!  She got two shots in one leg and one in the other.  She went to sleep again once we got home, but then woke up as soon as my first lesson arrived.  Evelynd was pretty happy through Caleb's lesson, but by Lucy's lesson the pain had hit and she cried a lot.  This is how she looked until the Tylenol kicked in:
Poor baby.  Dassow Mommy used her Gymboree rewards to go shopping for some cute new clothes for Evie so at least she can continue looking beautiful even when she hurts.  Okay.  Truth be told: Dassow Mommy needed the retail therapy after the shots.

Before bed, we got some smiles again.  Here's our Hawaiian princess after pain meds today:

Denise Steinbach gave Evelynd the cute dress and the Jippings gave her the socks.  Thanks!

If You Don't Have Anything Nice to Say ...

It's been a tough couple of days, but at least I always have this ray of sunshine to help pull me through anything:

Yes, Samson goes down the slide.

Here's to an awesome tomorrow!

Book Exchange Strikes Again

Just when I had given up another book shows up!  I had been thinking that it was pretty neat that Evelynd got ten books through the book exchange when another one showed up in today's mail.  That makes 11 and you know what Evelynd immediately did with her new book?  See below.
P.S. Red Sox won one in the double header against the Orioles today.
P.P.S. We girls got to spend the whole day together and even though Evie was awake during all my lessons, she was great at keeping herself entertained or just sitting on my lap (and occasionally playing the piano).

Little Dutch Girl

Evelynd got to wear a beautiful dress straight from Holland today.  The Jipping's daddy (Papa Kuno) is from Holland, so sometimes Evelynd gets Dutch hand-me-downs, like the dress she wore today.  Thanks for all the beautiful clothes, Jipping family.

This reminds me of pajamas the kids in Peter Pan might wear.

I look a little dead here.  I had just gotten back from taking Evie for a long walk and it was hotter than I had expected.

The dress also has an adorable sweater:

Also, today was the first time something happened that I knew would eventually.  I was asked if Evelynd was adopted.  She looks so much like Dassow Daddy that when people see Ev without him, they think she must be adopted.  Oh well.  Dassow Daddy makes a pretty girl.
