Back to School
Evelynd tried peaches today and broke down from exhaustion on our way home. Poor baby. Tuesdays are long days. Sorry no pictures. I'll be better tomorrow.

Oregon State Fair 2011
Today we took Evelynd to her first Oregon State Fair. As my mother sang every year:
Our State Fair is a great state fair
don’t miss it
don’t even be late
It’s dollars to doughnuts at our state fair
It’s the best state fair in the state
don’t miss it
don’t even be late
It’s dollars to doughnuts at our state fair
It’s the best state fair in the state
– Rodgers and Hammerstein
Today was the last day and it was HOT, but I'm glad we went. We saw the crafts, animals, and the booths with all the crazy products and new inventions and then wiggled in the shade of the garden area. That was the extent of our fair activities this year.
High tech fair now. (I don't have a smart phone, though, so this was no help to me.)
This horse was HUGE! It barely fit in its stall.
There's always a mom and her piglets (these were almost a month old).
After hours walking around (and the heat) someone was tired and someone else took a nap.
Evelynd liked the animals.
Goodbye State Fair! I'm sure we'll be back.
When we got back, Dassow Daddy played with Evie while I taught a lesson. I heard a lot of giggles coming from above me. Daddy also got some videos of Evelynd, so here are two of them.

Labor Day Weekend (So Far)
This weekend has been hot (in the 90's), but our house has stayed remarkably cool (thank you big trees). We have gotten out a little bit, though.
Friday, we took a long walk in the morning before it got too hot and visited Bryn Lynch. She had all sorts of presents for Evelynd: a piggy bank, leggings, and some crazy hot pink shoes! We had a nice visit and her son was very nice to Evelynd. I got a haircut in the afternoon and then we had a BBQ with the Jippings. The Jippings filled us with great food and some beautiful hand-me-downs that I look forward to dressing Ev in. (FYI: I realize that that last sentence ends with a participle, but I hold to the school that does not believe in Latinizing the English language.)
On Saturday, we got to visit GG'ma and GG'pa in their new digs. It was a nice visit and we look forward to seeing them again soon (we'll be thinking of you on Tuesday, GG'pa). Evelynd tried her first banana there. I used a mesh teething feeder, which is a handy way to feed Ev while we're on the go. She liked it, so thanks for the tip Samantha.
Then I had to play a wedding at the World Forestry Center, which shares a parking lot with the Portland Zoo and the Portland Children's Museum. Dassow Daddy and Baby walked around the park while I played. We had a hard drive home. Evie was extra tired, but wasn't falling asleep -- just screaming instead. After two stops, I was finally able to calm her and get her to sleep the rest of the way home.
Today was funny because Dassow Daddy was going to make his first batch of zucchini bread with some vegetables Katey and Kayla had left for us. Unfortunately, he used the cucumber instead. It's not awful and maybe, somehow, there's a great cucumber bread idea brewing in his head now. Evelynd went to bed early, so I think we'll watch a movie together. Semi-date night.
P.S. Red Sox won on Saturday.

I got this walker for her last week and today was the first day she got it to move (she was trying to jump in it at first).

VOTE FOR EVELYND - 2nd Chance Edition
I entered Evelynd in The Children's Place contest, so you can vote for her daily there (she didn't win the Gerber Baby, unfortunately). Her entry ID is 445722.

New Month, New Clothes
Last night was a little cool, so we put Evelynd in one of her warmer sleepers and it was too small! Tonight, she got to wear her first 6-9 month clothes.
She tried sweet potatoes for the first time today and loved them. She made a big mess, though, because she was always reaching out for the spoon; she got them all over herself and from my hair to my shoes. We were both looking lovely.
One thing I love that she's doing more often now if reaching out for me to hold her (as you can see in the last picture above).
Last thing today: Evelynd is a great car rider, which makes traveling to students' homes for lessons much easier.
Goodnight.

Three Cheers for Apples
Evelynd tried her first apples today and she loved them! It was the first time she ate the entire container of food and was constantly opening her mouth nice and wide. The other news for the day is that she took a 3 1/2 hour nap, so she went to bed about an hour later than her usual 8 p.m. bedtime. She was in a great mood all day, though. I like her. I think Dassow Daddy likes her, too.
P.S. She wore her cheerleader outfit today to cheer the Red Sox to another victory over the Yanks. Go Team!

Odds and Ends
Yesterday was a beautiful day so between lessons, Evelynd and her 'rents went to the park.
Today I had the day off. I considered going to the State Fair. I considered Enchanted Forest. I invited a couple friends. No one was available and Dassow Daddy had a meeting, so I think we'll try for the fair on Monday. Instead, Evelynd and I visited Shari Kelly and ran some errands. She played with Dassow Daddy while I made baked shells:
My view of Evelynd before the park
The video is of Evelynd going down the slide: Dassow Dinner was a spinach beef bake. It was yummy. |
This was the last day she can wear this dress from the Vanderhoffs -- it's getting too short. While getting ready for bed, Dassow Daddy made Evelynd laugh. A lot.
Food update:
Evelynd tried carrots on Sunday, but seemed to have a bit of an upset stomach, so we'll try those again another day. Monday and Tuesday was butternut squash. (She's now had rice cereal, peas, pears, carrots, and butternut squash.)
