Baby's 1st Memorial Day

Peter and I only had a couple of traditions, but now that we have a baby, I'm interested in starting more.  So, today we decided to actually start one for Memorial Day.  We bought some American flags, went to the nearest cemetery, and placed the flags on the graves of various veterans.  It was a gorgeous day and, as you can see from the pictures, a lot of people were there to remember our service men and women.  Next year I hope to take Evelynd up to her GG'pa Morris' grave for Memorial Day.

Evelynd was awake when we first arrived, but the stroller quickly put her to sleep.

The first of the six graves we put flags on.

With a name like that, he had to be a good guy.

This man fought in Korea, which allowed Dassow Daddy to be where he is today.

A beautiful Memorial Day in Salem.  This view is looking toward the Coast Range.
She doesn't have any red, white, and blue in this size, so we put on her white dress that has blue flowers and gave her a red backdrop instead.
Mid- dance.

We saw a couple of graves like this and were even more grateful to have such a happy, healthy baby.

After we took all the pictures, we went to McDonald's to get a snack and a movie.  On the way there, Evelynd laughed.  Multiple times.  Neither of us had our cameras, so hopefully we'll get a video of it soon!

Mom Loves Me

We wanted to get some pictures of Evelynd in the onesie the Seales gave us that says "Mom Loves Me," so that's what we did.

Daisy checks up on her baby multiple times an hour.

Peter thought it would be funny to put the remote by Evie, but no, she is not allowed to watch TV.

P.S. Red Sox won the first game of their doubleheader today.  Lowrie was back in the lineup and went 2 for 4.  So nice to be 1st in the East!

More Birthdays

Sorry no pictures today.  I had to chair a piano competition, then we went for a walk, then we tried a new recipe (a chicken and vegetable casserole) that was pretty good.  So that was our Saturday.

P.S. A very happy birthday to Evelynd's Aunt Paige and Cousin Tyler!

Doo-bee-doo-bee-doo-bee-doo-bee

That's the sound Evelynd made today that caused Dassow Daddy and Mommy to drop what they were doing and laugh.  Peter tried to get a video, but was too late.  Then, as soon as he had given up, she did it again.  We missed it again!  Bummer.  Here are some pictures, though:

I look pretty tired here, but we had to get a picture of Evie in her monkey pajamas for Courtney.

Ev got a new hair clip today.  It has a bird on it, natch.

P.S. Red Sox won.  1st place in the AL East!

Happy Birthday, Emily, Jason, and Kelly!

At McKinley Elementary, May 26 was always a good day.  Emily, Jason, and Kelly all have their birthday today so we always got triple the cupcakes.  In honor of those good days, here are some good Evelynd pictures from today.

We love the cute "Evelynd" puzzle stool Mary and Mike gave us that you can see in the background here.

Thanks for the cute onesie and pants, Kristy.

Mid-yawn.

P.S. Red Sox beat the Tigers 14-1 today, which puts them in a tie for the top of the AL East.  What a turnaround from the beginning of the season!

Short and Sweet

Dassow Daddy got a surprise when trying to get a video of Evelynd's exercising today:

P.S. Red Sox destroyed the Indians and Ellsbury went 3 for 4 as well as being walked twice.  Nice.

Beachcomber Baby

I took the day off, so we headed to Lincoln City with Nana and Papa Dassow on their last day here.  It was fabulous!  Not too much wind and temperature in the 60's.  What a great first trip to the beach for Baby Evelynd.

The Sea Lions were swimming and sunning themselves.

A view down the beach.

A crab that had already been picked clean by the seagulls.

We had lunch at Mo's and then spent the rest of our time on the sand.

Nana and Papa on the beach.

On the way home we stopped at the Otis Cafe and then at Cafe 22.  Cafe 22 is just outside of Salem.  We heard of it from a couple at our childbirth class.  They were some of the owners and said the cafe was famous for its milkshakes.  Our classmates weren't there, but their father was and he gave us all free shakes.  They were delicious with huge chunks of fresh fruit.  We will definitely be back.  Besides, what a nice guy.

Unfortunately, when we got home, Nana and Papa Dassow had to leave.  It was a fun visit.  Thanks for all your generosity and come back soon!

At the end of the day, Evie was all tuckered out:

Finally, for your viewing pleasure:

P.S. Red Sox won.  Good day all around.

A Sleepin' Good Time

Last night I fed Evelynd at 7:30.  She fell asleep at 8:30.  She woke me up to eat again at 3:30!  Eight hours between feedings!  When I put her down again, she didn't wake up until 8:30 -- another five hours!
Well-rested Dassow Mommy means a happy baby (actually she's almost always happy).

We went on a long walk through Bush Park with Nana and Papa Dassow today and got to see a lot of beautiful flowers.  Ev was awake for most of it -- she loves being outside.

The other thing I had to do today was piano Syllabus.  It was a crazy year with Syllabus.  I didn't get my schedule until last week and my students were all scheduled for Sunday, which most of them were not okay with.  So, after a lot of phone calls, most of them got rescheduled.  Which leads me to what happened on Friday.  I had two students who had their exams Friday at a house out in the country.  During Natalie's exam, her mother came in and asked Ryann to help with a situation.  One of the cats had given birth in the middle of the driveway and the mother cat had left it there.  Ryann got some paper towels and moved the smallest kitten I've even seen near its mother.  The mother did not seem interested.  Then, after looking around the garage, we found two more kittens.  One was moving around, crying, trying to find its mother.  I told the owner of the house about it and she said someone had dumped a bunch of feral cats on their property awhile back.  I don't know what happened to the kittens, but I got to witness the mother cat pass the placenta.  This was a first for me and a little distracting during the piano exams, but both girls passed.

P.S. Red Sox won and are only a half game back in the AL East.

A Swingin' Good Time

Up until today, this was Evelynd's swing:

Thanks to Nana and Papa Dassow, this is now Evelynd's swing:

Yay!  Evelynd likes it and Dassow Daddy and Mommy don't have to break their arms anymore!  Thanks Nana and Papa Dassow.  (Plus, thanks for the cute, soft ballerina sleeper Evelynd is wearing.)

Two Month Checkup

Today was Evelynd's two month checkup.  The interesting stuff:
  • Height: 24" (95th percentile)
  • Weight: 12 lbs. 1 oz. (75th percentile)
  • Head Circumference: 40 cm (75th percentile).
She is a growing girl!  Her clothes are getting too short.  Also, I can't believe I forgot to mention that Wednesday night she went six hours between feedings.  I felt pretty well rested on Thursday.

The bad stuff:

  • Three needles in her thighs:

  • More crying than ever (including our first real tears):

But at least she looked cute on this very bad day.
Thanks for the cute sundress, Allphin Family.
The good news:

  • Nana and Papa Dassow arrived this afternoon.
  • The weather was gorgeous!
  • Red Sox killed the Cubs and are 2nd in the AL East.

Not a Newborn

Today was the day when Dassow Daddy and I both agreed that Evelynd is no longer a newborn, but a baby.  She has grown a lot and can barely fit her 0-3 month clothes now (she's too tall).  Also, if she's awake, I don't need to hold her head at all.

The weather today was amazing.  Not a cloud in the sky and in the mid-70's.  So, I was able to dress Evelynd in one of the outfits Nana Evans had dressed me in and saved to give me when I had a daughter.  I wonder if she knew that that baby would be born in March and become Nana's "Pink Tulip Girl" to match the outfit.

P.S. Red Sox won their 6th in a row!
