Peter and I only had a couple of traditions, but now that we have a baby, I'm interested in starting more. So, today we decided to actually start one for Memorial Day. We bought some American flags, went to the nearest cemetery, and placed the flags on the graves of various veterans. It was a gorgeous day and, as you can see from the pictures, a lot of people were there to remember our service men and women. Next year I hope to take Evelynd up to her GG'pa Morris' grave for Memorial Day.

Evelynd was awake when we first arrived, but the stroller quickly put her to sleep. |

The first of the six graves we put flags on. |

With a name like that, he had to be a good guy. |

This man fought in Korea, which allowed Dassow Daddy to be where he is today. |

A beautiful Memorial Day in Salem. This view is looking toward the Coast Range. |

She doesn't have any red, white, and blue in this size, so we put on her white dress that has blue flowers and gave her a red backdrop instead. |

Mid- dance. |

We saw a couple of graves like this and were even more grateful to have such a happy, healthy baby.

After we took all the pictures, we went to McDonald's to get a snack and a movie. On the way there, Evelynd laughed. Multiple times. Neither of us had our cameras, so hopefully we'll get a video of it soon!
Cute, cute, cute. We went there on Memorial Day too and must have just missed each other because it was that time of day when it was gorgeous (wish it had lasted). Anyway, hope you all are well and we should talk/get together soon. That baby is growing up way too quickly:-)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great new tradition! She will love it when she gets to waddle around and place the flags herself! I love you! Mom
