The Best Laid Plans

Today was supposed to be a fun-filled fall day.  We were going to start at the pumpkin patch with hay rides and apple cider and end the day with a country fair with a pie bake-off and bobbing for apples.

Unfortunately, last Sunday Melanie Jipping's great-grandmother died.  Reba Russell Armstrong was 101.  Melanie has a photo in her house of five generations of women in her family.  How lucky they are to have gotten to know each other.

I offered to play the harp for the service and played "Ashokan Farewell" and "Flow Gently Sweet Afton" as duets with Melanie playing the violin.  It was a very nice service with a lot of people in attendance.  It was quite a testament to a wonderful, long life.  Dassow Daddy babysat Evie and the two Jipping girls.  He was lucky that they all napped through at least part of his babysitting time.

After the service, Peter had a business meeting that went long, so by the time he got home it was too late to go to the fair.  Oh well.  There will be other chances.

Since there are no pictures today, here's a video of Evie from Thursday.

  1. You made Reba's memorial so special with your beautiful harp playing:-) The girls were so tired after Reba's reception they both fell asleep in the car after about 10 seconds. We didn't even make it to my Grandma's house...
